Pakistan to lend Gandhara exhibit to Germany

Exhibition intended to promote Pakistan as an art-loving country

LAHORE : An exhibition of sculptures and artwork from the Gandhara Civilization, made up of exhibits from Pakistan museums, will be held in Germany in November to promote the country’s rich civilization and encourage tourists to visit it.

Fifty art pieces have been donated by the Lahore Museum, which boasts one of the richest art collections of the Gandhara Civilization. The exhibits are scheduled for display in the cities of Berlin, Bonn and Zurich. Earlier, the exhibition was scheduled was only Berlin and Bonn, but German authorities have requested the Pakistan government that they be displayed in Zurich also. The exhibition also includes art pieces from the Taxila Museum, the National Museum of Pakistan, Karachi and others. Information, Culture and Youth Affairs Secretary Orya Jan Maqbool, Lahore Museum Director Ashgar Nadeedm Syed, and Lahore Museum Gandhara Section head will travel to Germany with the exhibit for its inauguration. An exhibition dedicated to living city of Lahore, aimed at exploring, expressing, inventing and unfolding the spirit and form of the city. The city is not merely a static, spatial, functional, geographical place but a breathing, moving, pulsating being, teeming with stories and songs, resilient resistance,imagination, wisdom, magic and myth. It is a rich layered site of our shared living. The project is purposed at creating urban knowledge; initiating active interaction with and dialogue about the city and its future.

The exhibition will include photographs, audio recordings and poetry about the city. We look forward to developing a thorough, interesting, comprehensive collection with your contributions. A panel of designers and artists will select and arrange the final exhibition in collaboration with the contributors. Collectors to show Lahore’s old architecture

LAHORE: A group exhibition titled Shehr will open at the Collectors Galleria on April 28th at 6:30pm.

Almost four artists, Abdul Rahim, M Ilayas Rana, M Shafiq and Sarfraz Musawir will display over 11 pieces in this group show.

Their work is said to revolve around the old city architect. Each artist will present their paintings of old city grandeur, as perceived by themselves to carry in their own distinctive mark.

Another group exhibition will be displayed at the Alhamra Art Gallery on April 28th as part of the launch of Grey Noise, a virtual visual art gallery. Almost 11 artists will participate in the exhibition with variety of art forms and work, sculptures, photographs and paintings. Continue reading
